US Army Garrison Alaska (USAG Alaska)
USAG Alaska is a nationally significant training location and logistical center. Alaska’s environment, terrain, and climate provide unique training opportunities and its location is critical for transportation across between North America and Asia. USAG Alaska consists of the Fort Wainwright, Fort Greely, and ASA Richardson installations and their associated training areas, the largest of which include Tanana Flat (TFTA – 660,159 acres), Yukon (YTA – 257,067 acres), and Donnelly (DTA – 633,991 acres) Training Areas. Fort Wainwright is located near Fairbanks and Fort Greely is next to Delta Junction. The training areas surround these locations.

Military installations in Alaska face unique challenges. While spaces are vast, incompatible development in certain locations adjacent to bases and training areas threaten readiness. Additionally, climate related issues like permafrost thaw or wildfire, or unpredictable temperatures, pose an increasing risk to training and to nearby populations. This threat increases with incompatible development.
Compatible Lands Foundation is working with USAG Alaska to support and sustain the military mission and help facilitate future testing and training requirements through prevention, reduction, or elimination of incompatible land uses on properties adjacent to and/or in the vicinity of mission activities. CLF is also working with USAG Alaska to develop and implement wildland fire mitigation strategies.
