CLF is working with JBSA-Lackland AFB to protect buffer zones around the base so that U.S. Air Force servicemen and women can continue to receive basic and specialty training at this important base. Preserving open space ensures that training can continue, reduces potential conflict with adjacent landowners, and protects important habitats and natural resources.

Ongoing and planned development pressures around JBSA-Lackland AFB threatens to limit or cease numerous training activities. This increase of development is likely to generate noise complaints and light pollution. These mission constraints include fewer training days, limited use of new technologies, restrictions on night training, and reduced live-fire exercises. Additionally, development in areas that serve as habitats for feral hogs, coyotes, and venomous snakes has caused these species to disperse within the installation boundaries, creating potential safety
hazards for personnel.
