Fairchild AFB is in the east-central portion of Washington State in Spokane County, approximately 12 miles from the City of Spokane, and occupies approximately 4,500 acres. Fairchild AFB hosts the 92nd Air Refueling Wing and the 141st Air Refueling Wing, Washington Air National Guard. The base’s missions involve providing aerial refueling as well as passenger and cargo airlift and aero-medical evacuation missions supporting U.S. and coalition conventional operations.

CLF is partnering with Fairchild Air Force Base to help mitigate these concerns by working with willing land owners to enter into conservation easements. Conserving open space adjacent to the Base ensures that Fairchild Air Force Base’s military training activities can continue while conserving land and waters essential to life in this part of the state.
he land immediately adjacent to Fairchild AFB is mostly agricultural with some light industrial. However, increasing growth and development could affect future land uses and encroachment on Fairchild AFB. This encroachment could limit the ability to train and maintain operational readiness. Incompatible development to include mining, which would create retention ponds, dust, and light hazards, have the potential to impact the military mission. Incompatible land use which could attract birds or other wildlife that would contribute to a bird aircraft strike hazard is also a concern.
