At Compatible Lands Foundation (CLF), we partner with the Department of Defense (DoD) in protecting military readiness while preserving the environment. By creating open space “buffers” around military installations, we help to minimize incompatible development that can interfere with training, testing and other military activities. Our partnership with DoD also preserves working agricultural lands, water quality, and wildlife habitat.

We accomplish our mission of protecting military readiness while preserving the environment by purchasing conservation easements from willing landowners. Conservation easements are perpetual agreements to prohibit future incompatible land uses while allowing private landowners to retain ownership of their land for purposes of farming, ranching, hunting, etc.

The federal government, and particularly, the Department of Defense, generously supports our conservation activities. However, government regulations require us to secure matching funds and place limits on how these funds can be used. CLF needs your help as a corporate or individual supporter of our important work to accomplish the following:

  • Preserve additional lands under conservation easements.
  • Fund our endowment for monitoring and enforcement of the terms of conservation easements, which is a required activity.
  • Fund operations – as an organization, more than 97% of our funding goes directly into projects.

You may wish to identify how you’d like your funds to be used – acquisitions, endowment, operations or unrestricted. Also please advise us if we may recognize you or your organization on our website. We’ll issue you a letter of thanks and recognition that states the amount of your tax deductible donation and information about our status as a 501(c)(3) non-profit.
