Camp Bullis Sentinel Landscape

The Camp Bullis Sentinel Landscape encompasses ranch lands, spring-fed rivers, and one of the fastest growing regions in the country: metropolitan San Antonio. Camp Bullis provides training opportunities for 266 mission partners, supporting all DoD enlisted and officer medical training, military intelligence, special forces, pre-deployment, national, and international training requirements. With rapid population growth, the Camp Bullis Sentinel Landscape is facing several challenges affecting the long-term resilience of the region’s natural resources. New development is impacting water recharge into and supplies and water quality from the Edwards Aquifer. Additionally, it contributes to the loss of agricultural lands and increased light pollution for night training.
Compatible Lands Foundation received $5.1 million in fiscal year 2023 REPI Challenge funding to support the Camp Bullis Sentinel Landscape. The funding will be used to advance efforts to preserve key mission capabilities of strategic importance to DoD to enhance resilience to climate change and severe weather events. CLF will leverage existing partnerships with the City of San Antonio, the Camp Bullis Sentinel Landscape, Great Springs Project, and other local organizations as well as willing landowners to protect military readiness while enhancing local efforts to safeguard the Edwards Aquifer through conservation easements.
